Sicily in October: reviews from tourists. The best resorts in Sicily for a holiday Where is the best place to relax in Sicily in October

Although the best beaches of Sicily are located in the south and southeast of the island, beach holidays of varying degrees of comfort are possible on almost its entire coastline. There are sections of the coast where it is difficult to get close to the water, there are many unequipped beaches, but in general there are plenty of opportunities to find the beach of your dreams here.

It is better to plan a vacation in Sicily at the beginning or end of the tourist season: the sea is colder at this time, but there are also much fewer tourists than in July and August.

In Sicily there are both paid beaches - mainly in cities, and beaches for which you do not need to pay for use; here you will have to pay a small amount just for a sun lounger or an umbrella, if you don’t have your own. There are many wild beaches, not equipped with even minimal amenities, but not as crowded as city beaches.

It’s logical to start exploring Sicilian beaches from the capital of the island (Palermo). This is where planes and trains from other Italian cities arrive. In addition, the waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea, on the shores of which Palermo stands, are the first to begin to warm up at the beginning of summer, which means that the swimming season here can open earlier.

  • Advice: The most comfortable way to travel to remote beaches, and just around Sicily is.
  • Read also articles about the best, and

Driving along the northern coast of Sicily, called the Tyrrhenian coast and passing Palermo, you can get to Messina, the easternmost point of the island, and the narrow Strait of Messina (Stretto di Messina), which separates Sicily from the mainland. Along the way you will see some wonderful beaches.

San Vito Lo Capo

The beach in the vicinity of San Vito lo Capo, located west of Palermo, is considered perhaps the best in Sicily. It’s perfect: you’d expect to see something like this on an exotic island rather than in the Old World. The journey from Palermo takes about an hour.

The beach is good for everything - its size (its length is more than 3 km), its white soft sand, the azure color of the water, and beautiful views of the bay in which it is located. Its only drawback is the incredible number of vacationers, even in those months when the sea is still or already cool.

  • Good city hotel: Allbergo Auralba.

Mondello

Located west of Palermo, Mondello beach attracts with clean white sand. He was brought here specially; a hundred years ago the coast was very swampy. The sea here is shallow and perfect for families with children. Nearby there are many beautiful villas and a picturesque park. From the center of Palermo - 13 km.

One of the best hotels in the city is Splendid Hotel La Torre.

The path to the east lies through the beaches of Campofelice di Roccella. There is little sand here, the beach is mostly pebble, and the seabed drops off sharply near the shore. There is nothing to do here with children - it is dangerous. And there is only one organized beach here, the rest are wild.

But if the lack of umbrellas and sun loungers doesn’t bother you, feel free to stay. Nearby you can rent a guest house or apartment hotel, for example, Costa Mediterranea or.

Cefalu

Behind the cape begins the rather rugged coastline of the beaches of Cefalu. Palermo is 70 km from here. This beach has 15 km of clean sand and clear water. The depth is shallow, so the water warms up well. This is also a good option for families with kids: it’s warm, soft on their feet, and there’s room to run around to their heart’s content. Accommodation options with a private beach - hotels Blu Bay, Calanica Resort.

Young couples or lovers of noisy society should travel a little further - 12 km from Cefalu there is a place called Finale di Pollina. The beach here is not wide, but the sea views are magnificent. By the end of the season, the town itself becomes the center of unbridled fun, parties and continuous fireworks. Great option for accommodation: Marco Polo Casa Vacanze.

From Messina to the south

The east coast of Sicily, washed by the Ionian Sea, has many good beaches. The length of the beaches belonging to Messina is more than 200 km. On the way to another major city of the island, Catania, you will pass through Taormina, where there are wonderful but expensive resorts.

Aeolian Islands

Just west of Messina, a few kilometers from the coast of Sicily, are the Aeolian (Isole Eolie), or Aeolian, islands. Few people know this name, but many have probably heard about the Stromboli volcano, located on the island of the same name. The archipelago is incredibly beautiful and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The most beautiful beaches are on the island of Lipari, for example Canneto beach. There are many guest houses where you can stay for a few days. One of them is the Mistral residence.

Taormina

Lou The best beaches in the vicinity of Taormina are Giardini Naxos and Letojanni.: a perfectly straight coastline stretching for tens of kilometers, sea water the color of the sky, wide beaches equipped with everything you need, and a vibrant nightlife. The city beach is small and always crowded. You can get to it using a funicular or an elevator, or you can take the stairs, which is quite tedious.

Good hotels with private beaches: Atahotel Capotaormina, Park Hotel Silemi and others.

Lido Mazzaro

Another famous beach of Taormina, Lido Mazzaro (Spiaggia Lido Mazzaro), until recently remained inaccessible to mere mortals. It was chosen by Hollywood stars who were not very eager to be among the crowd of vacationers. Now anyone can come to the cozy bay. It is better to choose a time for your visit when the flow of vacationers is decreasing - the number of tourists trying to get to this beach is very large. You can stay comfortably at the Belmond Villa Sant’Andrea hotel.

Catania

Among the beaches of Catania, La Playa is especially noteworthy. This is a purely tourist place, there are many hotels, spa complexes, all the beaches are well equipped, but you have to pay for using them. Don't expect crystal clear water - this is the city center. Tourists staying at the hotels Zeus Residence, NH Catania Parco degli Aragonesi, etc. can use the beaches for free.

If you don't have small children and want to get away from the noise and crowds, follow the example of the locals and opt for Li Cuti Beach. It will surprise you not only with its size and relative emptiness, but also with its appearance: the coast here is black and strewn with large pebbles and pieces of frozen volcanic lava. Be careful when entering the water - you may slip or get hurt.

Southeast Sicily

After the noisy Catania, Syracuse, located to the south, surprises with relative peace and quiet. Beach tourists have nothing to do here, there are practically no places suitable for swimming, the nearest beach is located 10 km from the city. Ironically, Syracuse is the only place on the island where you can swim even in May.

Fontane Bianche

The resort town of Fontane Bianche is famous for the amazing sand of its beach - it is snow-white, the kind usually found on tropical islands. Unless you've booked a hotel room (White Bay), you're unlikely to find a place by the water; The beach is very small and packed to capacity during the season.

Kalamoske

Of particular note is the beach of Kalamosche (Spiaggia Calamosche). It is located on the territory of a nature reserve, and it is quite difficult to get to it, especially if you are with children or in your company there are elderly people or people with limited mobility. The parking lot is located far from the beach, the road is an ordinary dirt road, and you will have to walk more than a kilometer under the scorching sun. But here the water is crystal clear and you can admire wild birds.

Lido di Noto

The beach of Lido di Noto is one of the best in the vicinity of the town of Noto, located between Syracuse and the southernmost point of Sicily. This is an ideal place for families with children due to its fine sand, clear sea and uncrowded conditions. There is no need to pay to enter the beach; you can rent an umbrella and sunbed. There are few hotels here, but you can rent a small cozy house near the beach: Villa Agape, Appartamento Don Nino and others.

Mediterranean coast

Moving to the Mediterranean coast of Sicily, you find yourself in one of the best places for a beach holiday on the island.

Carratois

Carratois Beach is a secluded and unknown place to tourists near the southern tip of the island. But in Italy it is very popular, especially among the upper strata of society. You can only get here by car, and even then you need to know where to go from the parking lot. People come to Carratois not only to admire the sea: the local white clay has healing properties.

Ragusa

In the vicinity of Ragusa you can find beaches for every taste - with sand dunes, with shores covered with lush vegetation, with a convenient and gentle entrance to the sea or with steep cliffs that come close to the water. The most popular beaches are located in the Marina di Ragusa area. The beach here is free, but well equipped, there are many restaurants, there is a yacht berth, and there is a bus to Ragusa. An excellent option for accommodation in Ragusa is the L’Onda Hotel.

Situated almost exactly in the middle of the southwestern coast of the island, Agrigento successfully competes with Taormina for the title of best resort town.

There are many wonderful beaches here; The province is one of the twenty most visited by tourists. The two most unusual local beaches are those located on either side of the Scala dei Turchi, a snow-white cliff that gently slopes down to the water like a staircase built by giants. In Agrigento you can stay at Villa Rossana.

Marsala and Trapani

In the western part of the island are the cities of Marsala and Trapani. A story about a holiday in Sicily would be incomplete without a description of the local beaches.

Marsala

The city of Marsala is known primarily for its wine. Tasting it is the main goal of most tourists who come here. As for the beaches, they are also there, but they are not suitable for swimming and sunbathing: strong winds are not uncommon in this part of the island. For this reason, the beaches of Marsala are very popular among windsurfers and kite surfers. One of the best options for accommodation is Villa Profumo Di Mare.

The beaches in Trapani are rocky and not the cleanest in Sicily. But right opposite the city are the Egadi Islands (Isole Egadi), which can be reached from Trapani, as well as from Marsala, by ferry. They run at intervals of 30-60 minutes, a one-way ticket will cost 15-20 euros. Schedule and tickets: www.directferries.ru.

The Aegadian Islands are worth visiting for clean water, beautiful scenery, tranquility and solitude. The best beaches, with grottoes, bays and amazingly beautiful sea, are on the island of Favignana. It is better to rent a small villa here. Among the best hotels are Hotel Il Portico or I Pretti Resort. It’s better to book a few months before your trip – rooms are selling like hot cakes!

It is impossible to reach Italy without a trip to Sicily. The landscapes in Sicily are truly fantastic: there are mountains, a volcano, and wonderful beaches. Sicily is a wonderful place in all respects, and it’s definitely worth visiting there once.

You can go to the island at any time, but read this article below about what a holiday in Sicily is like in October, one of the most pleasant months for traveling.

The weather in October in Sicily is pleasant and warm, but there is no trace of the summer heat. As a rule, the first three weeks of October are sunny, warm and clear, with air temperatures during the day +24...30°C and +18...20°C at night). and the second – pleasant warmth (+24...27°C during the day and +16...20°C at night). Sometimes, however, such temperatures last almost the entire month, and sometimes at the end of October there are slight cold snaps (however, it is unlikely that it will be below +15-16 degrees during the day on these days). October in Palermo, the main city of the island, is more than pleasant, and, as a rule, it does not drop below +20 degrees at this time, and the nights are romantic and warm, although sometimes you cannot do without a jacket or blouse.

It’s also quite dry on the island in October. Fortunately, most of the days in October are sunny and clear, but several days a month are cloudy (more likely cloudy, which is not scary), while rain falls over Sicily three or four times in October, and in some places even less. So, there is a high probability that you will not experience any rain at all.

The sea off the coast of the island in early October is still warm - on average +25°C. As the days pass, the sea cools down very slowly, so that by the last days of October the water in the sea only reaches +22-24°C. That is, in October you will be able to grab sunny days on the beach and even get a good tan.

Thus, the October weather in Sicily is ideal for those who are planning to explore the beauty of the island (after all, it’s not so hot, it’s very comfortable), and an additional bonus is a beach holiday.

What to do in Sicily in October

There are so many things to do in Sicily! It is highly recommended to rent a car to drive from city to city - it is cheaper and easiest. You can go to a neighboring city, say, on a city bus, but you will have to return back at 7-8 o’clock, and this is too early.

There are three on the island airport: in the city of Palermo, Marsala and Catania. Most often, tourists choose Palermo or Catania. In principle, there are a lot of beautiful things around both cities, but if the first thing you want to do is climb Etna, choose Catania.

What places are worth visiting in Sicily? Island symbol - active volcano Etna. Its height is 3329 meters. You don't have to buy a tour to get there. A bus runs through the center of Catania (the fare costs about 4-5 euros one way), taking tourists to the picturesque village of Rifugio Sapienza, located right on the slope of the volcano. There is a funicular station there that will take you to a height of 2500 meters (the fare is about 30 euros there and back), and then you can continue the journey on foot (it’s hard, it takes about 40 minutes to walk), or take special buses to the very craters. Extinct craters are shown to absolutely all arriving tourists (a free guide works at the top), and to the crater in which lava boils, you will need to climb with a separate guide (and, perhaps, passage will be prohibited due to the dangerous situation). The place is fantastic, impressive and quite cool (but there are shoe and jacket rentals in the village) - wear jeans only and it wouldn't hurt to bring a hat and scarf, especially in October.

For the less extreme, there are the natural beauties of Sicily: wild rocks, lush vegetation, beautiful bays. AND beaches, of course. Sicily really has very beautiful and comfortable sandy beaches. If you are on holiday in Palermo, you can relax on the sand at Mondello beach(20 minutes drive from the city center): picturesque, excellent infrastructure, clean fine sand and excellent access to the sea (the beach is paid).

In Catania, the beaches are so-so, and many people prefer to go to Cefalu, a town an hour's drive from Catania - a long golden beach, restaurants and shops, an incredibly cozy and calm atmosphere. And many other beautiful beaches.

Highly recommended to visit Taormina. This ancient city is located between Messina and Catania, on the coast of the island. A city with history: in 403 BC, the port city of Naxos was destroyed on this site, the remaining residents fled to the city - and the village of Taormina was formed with a magnificent view of the Ionian Sea. The city is incredibly cozy and beautiful: there are the ruins of an ancient city, a Greek theater and a Roman odeon (where concerts are held today), and cozy streets with shops and restaurants.
You can take the funicular from Taormina down to the beaches, wonderful, sandy and pebbly. The most famous beach is Isola Bella beach with a small island with an observation deck and lush bushes. In general, Taormina is considered the most fashionable resort in Sicily, and this is immediately felt.

Don't be lazy to go to Castelmolu, a mountain village located above Taormina at an altitude of 550 meters above sea level. You can get there from Taormina by bus from the tourist center. You can also climb on foot. Castelmola was built as a fortress for protection from the sea. Today, only parts of the fortress remain, to which tourists are taken. Among other things, Castelmola has gorgeous, amazing, breathtaking views. It’s also very cool to have dinner here in a cozy restaurant, practically hanging over the abyss.

Go to Syracuse. This is one of the first Hellenic colonies on the eastern coast of Sicily, and was once the largest and richest city of the island, as well as the largest city in Antiquity by area. The ruins of the ancient city of Syracuse are a World Heritage Site. You can observe them in the park (admission is paid). You will find other beautiful places on the island of Ortigia - there is the Old Town with narrow streets and a fortress (you can ride around the island on a tourist train). You can also take a ride on a small yacht along the shores of the island and near the sea grottoes for a few euros - very beautiful!

Palermo, the capital of the island, the city is noisy, crowded, beautiful. On the warm days of October, many tourists are expected in Palermo: they come to admire the local unique attractions, walk the streets, and sit in open restaurants. Of the main objects of the city: urban garden flora(Villa Giulia) promenade Foro Italico, Cathedral Square, Cathedral of St. Rosalia, Royal Palace, Capuchin Catacombs and others.
In the vicinity of Palermo there is Mount Pellegrino with a wonderful view and a cave Church of St. Rosalia: don’t be lazy to climb the mountain to take in the entire city, enclosed in the mountains and licked by the sea.

Take a look at Theater Massimo. This is the largest opera house in Italy and one of the largest in Europe. The entrance is guarded by two figures of lions, which represent the main genres of theatrical art - comedy and tragedy. You can even attend one of the performances or concerts, or you can take a short daytime (about half an hour) excursion: You will be shown the theater premises, dressing rooms and more. Animal lovers should visit Biopark(near Palermo).

It's great to go to Erice. Even the Sicilians themselves may not know about this mountain village, but the place is really worthwhile. Erice is located near Trapani, and you can get to it either by car or bus, or by funicular. First of all, Erice has the most beautiful views. Secondly, Erice is an amazing, quiet and atmospheric corner, where there are much fewer tourists than in Palermo. Some streets here can easily be empty – amazing! Erice has shopping streets, small but cozy squares, absolutely captivating Italian courtyards, buried in flowers, and mind-blowing landscapes opening from the outskirts of the town. In addition, in Erice there are ruins of old fortresses, castles and museums (in principle, you don’t have to go to museums, these are not the richest museums in Sicily).

Thus, a trip to Sicily in October can combine a cultural and educational holiday, an active holiday, and a lazy beach holiday.

When is the best time to vacation in Sicily?

High season

The tourist season begins in May and lasts until November. Nature has generously rewarded the island with a mild climate and natural attractions. It is best to go to Sicily in June, when the Mediterranean Sea is well warmed up, but some daredevils open the season as early as May. In terms of prices, it is optimal to vacation in June and September, the most expensive are in July and August.

May Sicily is sunny and not hot. Flowering orange trees and forbs add color to the local landscape. It’s a little cold for swimming: during the day +22...+24°С, at night +14°С, sea water +18°С.

IN June during the day +25°С, at night +18°С. Cherries and strawberries are ripe, the sea warms up to +21...+22°C. There is no extreme heat during the day, and beach holidays can be combined well with excursions.

IN July The average daily air temperature rises to +29°C, at night +21°C. Everyone rushes to the sea, whose temperature is already +25°C. Excursions at this time do not bring joy - it is too hot. Vacation prices are high.

August- the hottest month in Sicily. The sea warms up to +26°C, the heat is incredible. The tourist season is reaching its peak, hotels and beaches are crowded and prices for services are very high. At the end of the month, the grapes ripen and the harvest begins.

First half September in Sicily it resembles summer, and the second is considered the velvet season. It’s great to vacation on the island this month: the average temperature during the day is +26°C, at night +19°C. The sea is +24°C, sometimes it rains with thunderstorms. The grape harvest continues.

IN October still warm: air +22°C during the day, +16°C at night, sea +22°C. Pomegranates, persimmons and olives are ripening, and restaurants are vying with each other to offer fresh mussels and new wine. The beaches are noticeably empty. At the end of the month it becomes windy and cool, and the high season comes to an end.

Low season

WITH November By April It’s worth going to Sicily for a cultural, educational and health-improving holiday. In November it can still be very comfortable by the sea: +18°C during the day, +13°C at night, but it rains more often and the winds blow.

Winter brings joy with sales, carnivals and citrus harvests. In December, the ski season opens at the foot of Mount Etna, but it doesn’t last long - the snow melts already in March. On the coast during the day the air temperature is +13...+14°С, at night +8...+10°С. In April, trees and shrubs bloom, and the air warms up to +18°C during the day and +11°C at night.

Where is the best place to relax in Sicily?

Palermo

The capital of the island and a popular Sicilian resort. Palermo has everything for an inquisitive and active tourist: ancient castles, palaces, clubs and restaurants. The city is often criticized for being dirty and somewhat chaotic, but it is convenient in terms of transport links and full of attractions.

A 20-minute drive from the city there is a sandy beach with a flat bottom - Mondello. This is the most popular beach in Palermo. There are many small guest houses and apartments here, so young people and families with children love to relax in this Sicilian resort. In summer the beach is always noisy and fun.

From Palermo it is convenient to visit other attractions of the island - Trapani, Erice and the city Corleone with its famous Mafia Museum.

Editor's personal experience. I vacationed in Sicily for three weeks, two of which I lived in Palermo. This is a colorful city with character - not everyone will like it. Only those who are interested in architecture and like to wander through the labyrinths of slums, who are not afraid of bad smells, garbage and the abundance of black emigrants, should come here. Palermo is more Africa than Europe. A good beach holiday can be found in the suburbs - in Mondello. For a medieval atmosphere and coolness, come to the city of Erice - this is one of the most beautiful and authentic places in Sicily. Alexey Sinitsyn.

Catania

An ancient port city, its main attraction is the volcano Etna. The city has its own sandy beach with developed infrastructure: there are many hotels, restaurants around, and noisy discos on weekends. On the opposite side of the city there is a small wild beach with black sand; entry into the water is not the most convenient, but the water is clean.

This resort in Sicily is best for young and middle-aged people who love nightlife and entertainment. The resort is not suitable for families with children - it is noisy.

Syracuse

This is an ancient city with many architectural attractions from different eras. You can get there by bus or car from Palermo and Catania. The city is so quiet and peaceful that you can walk at night without fear of criminals. In the city itself, the shores are rocky and steep, and there are many stones in the sea. All decent beaches are located outside the city.

The nearest sandy beach is located in Fontane Bianca You can get there by train or car. This is the best beach in this part of the island: light sand, flat bottom and sea that remains warm until November. The bays near Syracuse are rich in underwater caves, making them interesting for diving. The resort is also suitable for those interested in culture and architecture.

Where is the best place to relax in Sicily with children? 70 km from Palermo there is a small town on the rocks - Cefalu. The resort is convenient for tourists without a car - it is easily reached by public transport, for example, from Palermo, or by night train from Rome or Milan.

A large sandy beach stretches along the walls of the Old Town. There are all kinds of entertainment facilities here, and you can rent accommodation nearby. During peak season, this beach is always crowded; this popularity is partly due to the availability of free areas. And next to Cefalu there is another popular beach - Mazzaforno. One part of it is sand and pebbles, the other is with soft fine sand.

Taormina

You can get here by bus (2 hours) or train (45 minutes) from Catania. The city is beautiful, with wonderful views of the volcano. Creative people often come here for inspiration. The downside is that almost the entire coastline is pebbly or rocky. There are often large stones, and the beaches themselves are small.

One of them is a pebble beach Isola Bella- well protected by mountains, well equipped, but the entrance to the sea is inconvenient because of the stones. From Taormina you can get here by cable car. Another popular pebble beach is located at Mazzaro, you can get there by bus.

If you are going to Sicily specifically for a beach holiday, then it is more convenient to stay in the village Giardini Naxos, where there are beautiful sandy beaches. You can get here by train or bus, and from mainland Italy by train.

(Photo © 6657176 / pixabay.com)

Trapani

Another cozy town with beautiful beaches and ancient architecture. Luxurious gardens, ancient palaces, nearby a small volcanic island with caves and beaches. The beaches in the city are public, so they are always crowded.

1.5 hours drive from the city is the best beach in Sicily - San Vito Le Capo. The town itself is not of particular interest, but the beach here is magnificent - wide, long, with powdery sand and turquoise water. On one side it is framed by Mount Monaco. There are shops and cafes on the embankment; the hotel base is mainly represented by budget "C" and "Four" hotels. Very beautiful, but crowded, especially in August.

Editor's personal experience. Trapani itself is of little interest for a beach holiday - the beaches here, although spacious, are nondescript. But very close is a real treasure - stunning beaches of Favignana island. What countries have I visited, but I have never seen such beauty anywhere! Be sure to go to the island and visit these fabulous beaches - entry is free, and getting to the island by boat costs about 20 euros round trip. Alexey Sinitsyn.

Conclusion: where to relax in Sicily?

If you are interested in an educational holiday, then you should stay near large cities, where there are many attractions and good transport links. For young people, Palermo and Catania are more suitable, for couples with children - the sandy coast of Trapani and Cefalu. Diving enthusiasts will love the surroundings of Taormina and Syracuse.

The sunny island welcomes numerous tourists all year round without a break. The proposed tours to Sicily in October are enviably popular. You can get here by plane (there are 5 modern international air terminals in Sicily), by train and ferry.

in October

In the autumn, the pilgrimage of tourists and vacationers to this seaside resort does not lose relevance, as warm climatic conditions contribute to this. The weather in Sicily in October only gradually begins to cool, and from the suffocating summer heat gradually turns into a mild autumn, accompanied by rare rains. The average monthly air temperature does not fall below +25, and the sea water warms up to +22 degrees.

Sicily attracts tourists in October. Reviews from tourists who visited here at this time remain only positive. The thing is that this resort has a peaceful and cozy atmosphere. In October, mostly adults vacation on the island; youth groups and noisy parties in cafes before dawn are no longer found during this period. This month the coast is very quiet, calm and comfortable. Sicilian autumn is especially suitable for relaxing with the whole family.

Events

In October, Sicily gives everyone who visits it not only a luxurious holiday, but also presents to everyone’s attention many traditional spectacles, festivals, exhibitions, and tastings for this time of year.

Judging by the reviews of tourists, one of the most interesting events in October is the Pistachio Festival, dedicated to the end of the harvest season and held in the small town of Bronte. The festival hosts theatrical performances, musical groups perform, and fairs and exhibitions of all kinds of Sicilian dishes with the obligatory addition of the famous nut. Everyone can taste any dish for free and take part in various competitions.

Having eaten plenty of delicious pistachios, from Bronte you can go to the small village of Modica, where a chocolate festival is organized, and then to the city of Ragusa, where you can take part in the “Festival of Honey and Honey Products”. The products of Sicilian beekeepers are considered the most delicious in all of Italy.

At the end of the grape harvest, in the second half of October, homemade wine is traditionally prepared in Sicily. Guests of the island can not only take part in a tasting, but also observe the preparations of the local population for the major Sicilian holiday - St. Martin's Day.

Beach areas of Sicily

In mid-autumn, everything is officially closed, but this does not mean that they are not functioning. You can freely sit on the sand or pebbles to relax and get a long-awaited tan. However, unfortunately, you won’t be able to take advantage of sea activities. In October, water equipment rentals, diving schools and other entertainment services are no longer available on the beaches.

There are a lot of beaches in Sicily, and they are all special in their own way. Taking into account the sincere reviews of tourists, the San Vito Lo Capo beach is considered the most beautiful and cleanest on the island. Holidays in Sicily in October are memorable because, in addition to warm and sunny weather, you can enjoy snow-white sand and clear sea water. The coastal strip is located in a quiet area near the Zingaro National Park.

The entire territory of Northern Catania is occupied by beaches with rare and unusual sand, which is formed from volcanic rocks crushed by waves. In their reviews, tourists recommend wearing slippers, because sometimes you can feel large and sharp samples of volcanic lava with your feet.

Not far from Palermo there are beaches for lovers of pebbles and coarse sand. They are not as crowded as places with fine sand. Reviews from tourists claim that the sea water on all the beaches of the island remains warm during October, but by the end of the month, swimming is no longer as comfortable as at the beginning.

Climbing Etna

Reading reviews from tourists, you can understand that relaxing on the island and not climbing the famous one is the same as not coming there. October is considered the last month when excursions to the volcano are organized, because in November it becomes incredibly cold at the top of the mountain.

For the ascent of organized groups of tourists to the volcano, all-terrain buses, professional guides and additional sets of warm clothing are available for rent. Traveling to the summit on your own is strictly prohibited. However, some extreme sports enthusiasts still risk getting there on their own. It is necessary to remember that the condition of Etna is determined by the color of the smoke above it: if the haze above the volcano is white, then it is safe, but if it is red, then it is better to go straight to the airport.

Food and cuisine in Sicily

Sicily in October is rich in all kinds of treats. During this month of the end of the harvest of fruits, berries and vegetables, guests of the island can see an abundance of Sicilian treats at incredibly low prices. At this time of year, there is intense trade on the island in fresh grapes and excellent wine made from them, delicious pomegranates and persimmons, nuts (mainly pistachios) and porcini mushrooms, a huge number of which grow on the slope of that same Etna.

The most popular products of this season are fresh olive oil and homemade wine. Reviews from tourists report that you can buy them on almost every corner.

Sicily in October: 6 reasons to travel

  1. See with your own eyes the picturesque panoramas of the island in the autumn.
  2. Take part in various celebrations dedicated to the end of the harvest, with colorful theatrical performances.
  3. Swim in the still warm sea water and soak up the comfortable climate.
  4. Climb to the top of the famous volcano.

Taormina is a beautiful ancient city, with an amphitheater, cathedrals and squares, located on the terrace of Mount Tauro. At one time, many artists, writers and other creative personalities came here in search of inspiration. For the same purpose, today thousands of travelers flock to the city for the famous arts festival.

When coming to Taormina, be sure to check out the beaches of the Ionian Sea, which can be reached by cable car, and visit the village Giardini Naxos , with its beautiful long beaches. It will be especially good for vacationers with children, since all the beaches here, unlike Taormina itself, are sandy.
