You can check in for AirBaltic flights both from home and at the airport. Check-in at the airport is paid and costs 10 euros. Despite the fact that AirBaltic is a low-cost airline, through check-in is possible for all one-way flights at once. For example, you are flying Moscow-Riga-Dublin, already in Moscow you can check in to Dublin, your luggage will also be overloaded.

If you have checked in in advance, then at the airport, in the absence of baggage, you can immediately proceed to the next stage, and if you have checked baggage, then first go to the Check-in or Drop-Off counters. Check-in closes 40 minutes before flight departure (in business class - 30 minutes before departure).

If you are flying with an infant (without a seat) or need special services (for example, assistance to people with disabilities), then you can only check in at the airport.

With the Business Elite fare, you can carry up to 3 pieces of baggage with a total weight of up to 60 kg. With a Business Smart ticket - up to 3 bags weighing up to 60 kg, and with a Basic ticket you pay about 25 euros per bag when paying at the time of ticket purchase, about 35 kg - when buying through third-party agencies, the same amount - if you pay for baggage in advance, but after buying a ticket, about 40 euros - when you check in at the counter at the airport and about 60 euros - at the gate.

The same applies to Economy Elite passengers. Additional baggage can be carried by privileged members of the AirBaltic rewards program.

Dining at AirBaltic does not enjoy positive feedback from tourists in terms of "price-quality". AirBaltic passengers can order paid meals both on the website and during the flight.

Transit fromAirBaltic

Despite the fact that AirBaltic is a low-cost airline, there is a transit zone at their base airport, so you can safely fly from “non-Schengen” to “non-Schengen” without a transit visa if you do not have a long connection and do not plan to cross the border. Also, if you have a Schengen visa, you can go out into the city.

When transiting to/from the Schengen area, you will receive a stamp in Riga. For example, you fly AirBaltic from Moscow to Riga and then to Barcelona. You cross the border of the Schengen zone in Riga, the stamp will be put there (it doesn’t matter if you leave the city or not), and the Riga-Barcelona flight will be considered internal.

AirBaltic planes

  • Boeing 737-300

The Latvian company owns 8 liners of this type. The age category of the model varies from 15 years to 20 years. The capacity of the Boeing is 149 people, which can be accommodated in economy class.

  • Boeing 737-500

The AirBaltic fleet includes 5 liners of this model. All of them can accommodate up to 132 passengers. The age category of aircraft is from 15 to 20 years.

Look for cheap tickets for any type of transport without leaving your home:

  • De Havilland Canada DHC-8-400

This aircraft model was put into operation instead of the similar Boeing 757-200. The planes are aimed at charter transportation of passengers, as well as on seasonal routes. All 12 models of the fleet are very new, the oldest of the liners are no more than five years old.

Since AirBaltic mainly positions itself as a low-cost carrier, the company's management plans to decommission the remaining Boeings in the same way as the Boeing 757-200 before. Instead, it is planned to introduce more comfortable Bombardier CS300ER.

Baggage

The size of hand luggage depends entirely on the type of passenger ticket and the privileges associated with each of them. However, there is a general rule for ticket holders of all categories - no more than 8 kilograms of the total weight of all things in the cabin.

The luggage that people take with them on the plane is usually divided into personal items and hand luggage.

According to the regulations, personal belongings include PCs, handbags, bags for cameras and laptops, umbrellas, etc.

  • If a passenger has a regular or premium ticket, then according to the rules of Air Baltic, he can take with him only one personal item and one carry-on baggage of standard sizes.
  • If a passenger is flying with a business class, two hand luggage are already allowed in the cabin, but still the same one personal item.

If, when checking in luggage, the staff finds out that the dimensions of the passenger's hand luggage or personal belongings exceed the norm, he will be required to pay an additional fee of 40 euros. If this situation is revealed when the passenger is boarding, he will have to pay 20 euros more for checking in an extra seat in the cabin, reserved specifically for his hand luggage.

It is strictly forbidden to carry any type of liquids in excess of 100 ml in hand luggage, unless they have been purchased from duty-free shops on the territory of the airport in compliance with these rules adopted by airports in the Schengen area.

The baggage fee is also determined using the passenger ticket. The general rule of checked baggage is no more than twenty kilograms per person. Some passengers have baggage privileges:

  • Most privileges are available to business class ticket holders. It allows the passenger to take with him luggage with a total weight not exceeding forty kilograms. There will be no charge for it.
  • Free baggage is also available to those who have purchased a premium ticket. For them, the baggage allowance is reduced by half - up to 20 kg per person.
  • Passengers who have purchased a regular economy class ticket do not have free baggage allowance. The price for it varies depending on the time and moment of ordering the service. It is most advantageous to buy a seat for baggage at the time of ticket purchase. Then the payment will be 19.99 euros (if the passenger makes a round-trip flight, he must pay this amount twice).

The maximum free baggage allowance can be 80kg if the passenger is a PINS VIP member.

AirBaltics is not responsible for damage to personal property in suitcases or bags during the flight, as it always warns you to carry especially fragile items in your hand luggage.

Thus, AirBaltic is the largest low-cost airline in the Baltic countries with an official website in Russian, where you can find out about airfare, study information about flight directions and rules for carrying baggage and hand luggage. Air Baltic has been operating in the aviation services market for a long time and has won the trust of many European citizens.

When preparing my first flight with a low-cost airline (and it was Air Baltic), I had a lot of questions:

- How is check-in going if you are flying with hand luggage only?

- Do they check the size and weight of hand luggage at the airport? - What is the size of the free hand luggage allowed?

- Is it possible to take an additional small handbag into the salon?

Break the entire Internet, some of them did not find the answer. So I'll tell you how everything was in my journey)

When buying tickets from low-cost airlines, be prepared that you can only take hand luggage of the established size and weight with you. You will have to pay extra for luggage.

The dimensions and weight of hand luggage must be clarified in advance on the website of the air carrier, if you do not want to pay extra for 1 extra cm of the bag at the airport, the amount that can be equal to half the price of the ticket

The size of hand luggage that an Air Baltic passenger is allowed to take on board:
1 hand luggage (55x40x20 cm)
+ 1 personal item (30x40x10 cm) with a Basic or Premium ticket. Personal items include: hand bags, laptops, tax-free bags, camera bags, umbrellas.

The weight of hand luggage and personal items - no more than 8 kg.

Passengers have many questions regarding hand luggage in Air Baltic:
- is it possible to bring on board a bag a couple of centimeters larger than the dimensions stated on the website?
- Can a bag weigh more than 8 kg?
- Are hand luggage measured and weighed at the airport?
and etc.

I flew Air Baltic once. Connecting flight - Moscow (Sheremetevo) - Riga-Madrid. Air Baltic has hand luggage frames at the gates at both Sheremetyevo and Riga Airport.

Departure with Air Baltic from Sheremetyevo:

Because boarding pass was printed in advance at home, the question arose:

"Do I need to go to the check-in counters to weigh my hand luggage and stick a sign that it has been checked?"

Clarified at the information desk - no, it is not necessary.

Passed security control and went straight to the gate)

About weighing and measuring:

at the gate in Sheremetyevono one checked hand luggage, neither for me nor for other passengers.

Moreover, many of the bags were clearly not in size. BUT.

The landing on the flight was delayed, maybe that's why they decided not to check, so as not to delay the departure even more.

By the way: after reading on the Internet about the rampage of low-cost airlines about the size of hand luggage, I bought a bag specifically for the size, and I clearly controlled the weight of the bag.

At the gate in Riga:

On the Air Baltic flight to Madrid, no one checked my hand luggage at the boarding. Only one Spanish aunt was sent in line to the frames, and that was because she did not behave very nicely and she had a specific bag. But even after making sure that she had a bag that did not fit in size, she was allowed in without surcharges. Apparently they measured it just to say that they say ay-ya-yay! next time with such a big bag we won't let you in!!

TOTAL:

My hand luggage was not checked for dimensions and weight. BUT! They can check, so it's better not to risk it and have a bag of the right size and weight. If you do not want to pay a considerable amount at the airport.

This airline connects the Baltic region with 70 destinations in Europe, the CIS and the Middle East. Before departure, it is advisable to go to the official website of the carrier and check in the “Manage your reservation” section how much hand luggage Air Baltic allows passengers to carry into the cabin.

If you are not sure about the weight or dimensions of your carry-on baggage, please check with the baggage drop desk before going through security screening. If the worker decides that your bags or backpacks exceed the allowed limits, you will be asked to register and return them at a cost of 50 EUR.

At the request of the airport representative, the passenger is obliged to place his/her belongings in the luggage measuring container located at the airport. The bag should fit easily and completely into the measuring container without pressure. Otherwise, the dimensions of hand luggage exceed the AirBaltic limits for items carried in the cabin of the aircraft and such items will have to be checked in for placement in the luggage compartment of the aircraft for an additional fee.

Before codeshare flights, one of which is operated by another airline, Air Baltic asks that you familiarize yourself with the weight and size restrictions for hand luggage of both companies and follow the stricter ones.

Can I take the guitar into the salon?

No, the dimensions of the guitar exceed the maximum dimensions of hand luggage on AirBaltic (55x40x23 cm), so it cannot be transported in hand luggage in the cabin of the aircraft.

The following restrictions apply to the amount of liquid:

  1. Liquids may only be transported in containers not larger than 100 ml.
  2. These containers must be delivered to the airport in a single, transparent, resealable plastic bag, which by itself must not exceed a capacity of 1 liter (approximately 20x20 cm). The contents of the package must fit comfortably in it, the package must be sealed.
  3. Each passenger can take only one such bag of liquids and submit it for inspection.

Liquids that cannot be placed in resealable bags must be packed in a receptacle.

Liquids from Duty Free

You can take liquids purchased from Duty Free shops at any airport on board an aircraft, subject to the following conditions:

  • at the time of purchase, the seller must seal the liquid and the receipt for the purchase in a special transparent bag with a red stripe
  • the package must remain sealed until you arrive at your destination

For security checks at transit airports, the purchase will be removed from your carry-on baggage and scanned separately (as is the case with laptops).
