Also interesting

The ski resort of Jasna is famous for winter sports enthusiasts: world-class competitions are held here every year. Hence and excellent quality of tracks, and modern lifts.

But Jasna also focuses on organizing family holidays - half of the slopes are for beginners, the ski school has an excellent playground for children, the après-ski program takes into account the interests of both kids and adults, and hotels are open all year round, inviting tourists to spend the summer in mountains.

And one more argument in favor of holidays with children in Jasna: Slovak resorts are still pleased with very affordable prices.

Jasna on the map of Slovakia

The ski resort Jasna is located in the central part of Slovakia, on the territory of the Žilina region (the administrative center is the city of Žilina). The distance from Jasna to Bratislava is 300 km, to Zilina - 100 km, to Liptovsky Mikulas - 16 km.

The Low Tatras mountain range, where Jasna is located, is a relatively gentle mountain. However, Mount Chopok, at the foot of which the resort is located, is the second highest peak in this region.

Due to the fact that the trails start at an altitude of about 2000 meters, a good snow cover lasts for almost 5 months.

Vacation with children

It is worth repeating the main reasons why the Jasna ski resort is so popular with tourists: high-quality slopes of different levels, modern lifts, entertainment for every taste, good hotels and reasonable prices. A family vacation in Yasnaya has its advantages.

The ski school program meets modern standards, and it is a pleasure to study on a special site. If skiing does not arouse interest in a child, there are other activities at the resort.

Secondly, this resort can be chosen if the task is to relax with a child in a comfortable hotel or cozy apartment, but without excessive pomp. Here you can even find hotels aimed at families with preschoolers.

Thirdly, in Yasnaya there is enough entertainment for children outside the hotel. It is especially fun here in the summer when amusement parks are open. The family vacation program can be filled with activities - for example, hiking and cycling.

Finally, summer in Yasnaya is a period of blissful calm. Choosing this resort for a trip with a baby, you will enjoy the silence, fresh air and cool, sunny weather.

One of the few drawbacks of the resort is the lack of a direct connection to the airport: you need to get here with transfers. To make the journey not tiring, you can arrange a transfer from the airport.

When is the best time to go

The first vacationers come to the mountains even before the official opening of the season in Yasnaya, that is, in late November - early December. AND the best skiing awaits skiers from the end of December to the end of March. In April, there is still snow on the slopes, but the condition of the slopes is not always conducive to comfortable skiing.

The duration of the ski season in Yasnaya is at least 150 days. If necessary, the cover on the tracks is created with the help of artificial snowmaking.

When is the best time to go to Jasna for skiing? The quietest time in the resort is between the Christmas holidays and the beginning of February. At the end of winter and at the beginning of spring, many families from Slovakia come to the mountains, and even in such a large resort it can be crowded.

Summer is suitable for a holiday with a child in Yasnaya no less than winter. It is warm in the mountains of Slovakia in summer, so you can devote a lot of time to outdoor activities. There is no heat in the resort, so July-August is the best time to travel with a baby to Jasna.

Weather and climate

The climate of Yasnaya is best described as moderate: winters in the resort are snowy, but with slight frosts, summers are warm, but without heat. Acclimatization in such conditions goes unnoticed, and the rest is a success.

Winter comes to Jasna already in November. During the day, thermometers show about + 4 ° С, and at night the air cools down to -2-4 ° С.

Temperatures are not uncommon in December, although frost is more often kept to -1-2 ° C during the day and -3-5 ° C at night. December rarely pleases with the sun, but thanks to heavy snowfalls, a good snow cover quickly forms.

In January-February, the weather is very similar to December, only the thermometers drop to -3-5°C during the day and -5-8°C at night. Occasionally there are night frosts down to -20 ° C, but they last no longer than one or two days.

In March, the air temperature rises to +3-4°С during the day and to -1°С at night. Clear days are finally returning, it snows a little less often than in winter - perhaps the weather for the best holiday in Yasnaya with children should look like this.

In April, the air warms up to + 8-10 ° C, snowfalls are replaced by rains. In May it warms up to +15°C, and in June-August the daytime temperature rises to +20-24°C. At the same time, the nights remain cold, about + 8-16 ° С, so warm clothes will be needed for a summer vacation in Yasnaya.

In May - July, the mountain resort is actively rained. But at the same time, there are more sunny days in summer than cloudy ones.

In September, the temperature drops to +15-16°C, and a sharp drop to +8°C is possible. In October it gets cold up to + 8-9 ° С, at night the thermometers show about zero. The weather is clear, and it rains relatively infrequently.

Transport

Public transport in Yasnaya knows how to surprise. For example, in addition to the usual ski buses that bring skiers to the slopes, the resort runs an aqua ski bus - it runs between the ski resort and the Tatralandia water park.

Traveling with a ski pass within the resort is free, the schedule can be found at the hotel or tourist information center.

The only intercity transport in Jasna is the buses going to Liptovsky Mikulas. A ticket to Liptovsky Mikulas costs about 1.20 euros, tickets for children aged 7-15 are half the price.

To get around Yasnaya, you can call a taxi - the resort has several services, information about them is on the tourist website. If you are going to go to the mountains in your own or rented car, please note that there is only one parking in the center of Yasnaya, the rest are located near the ski lifts.

Ski resort Jasna, Slovakia. Traveler's eyes.

Much has been said above about the fact that there is always a lot of snow in Jasna for almost 5 months a year. But! Objectively. The climate here is unique. This is my second trip to this region and the weather was absolutely the same despite the fact that we went in different months. I do not exclude that this is my personal luck, but nevertheless. So - the lower stations are located at an altitude of about 1,000 meters and it's warm there - about +2. At the upper station of Mount Chopok (2,024 m) a strong wind always blows (which blows away all the snow), but such that the gondolas shake not like a child and very often the pass is closed. And this means that you may be “lucky” to ride only on one of the slopes of the mountain, and, therefore, in the high season, stand in lines for the lift.
For myself, I concluded that this is more of a weekend resort (fortunately, it is located very close to the autobahn) and great weather luck. So about everything in order.

How to get from Kyiv to the Yasna ski resort by car.

We decided to go to Yasna for 2 days - Saturday and Sunday, December 10 and 11, 2016. Departure from Kyiv at 13:00 on December 9. You can go through Poland (here it is a little shorter than 1,035 km) and you don’t have to cross the pass from Lviv to Mukachevo. But there is one big BUT - Polish customs. Here you can stand for 4 and 6 hours, and this is not an exaggeration. I don’t know what they are doing there, but I have never met slower customs officers anywhere.

So we decided to go to Uzhhorod and cross the border with Slovakia there. We didn’t make the whole way (1,100 km) very quickly, mainly because of the ice on the pass, the customs took us, at most, 30 minutes and already at 3 am we were in Demänovska Dolina. Don't forget to buy a Slovak vignette (toll) at any gas station - the minimum period for which it is offered is 10 days and costs 10 Euros.

Jasna, ski rental, ski pass prices, prices in restaurants.

There are several rental shops. Some are right under the lifts - others are a little lower near the parking lot. The cost differs by 30-40%. At the same time, the quality of skis and boards is almost the same. Ask at the hotel if they have an agreement with a discounted rental. In our case, it saved 10%. Ski rental for two days - 19 Euro per person.
Ski passes - prices in the photo. In our case, two days - 62 Euro + 2 Euro deposit per card. In Jasna there is a so-called GoPass card, which gives you the opportunity to skip the line, discounts on food at restaurants on the mountain, etc. - read on the resort's website, it may make sense to use it for a long stay.
Prices in all restaurants on the slopes are approximately the same and not cheap. Standard European (as in Austria, Italy or France - not to be confused with Switzerland). Snack for one - 15-20 Euro.

Jasna, Low Tatras, Slovakia. What did you like.

It was sunny for two days with little clouds. The views were just stunning. Just for the sake of these views it is worth going here for a day or two. A passage was opened from one side of the mountain to the other, although the wind was solid. The tracks are prepared, practiced, many of them are already open and there are not many people at all. Most of the trails are not long and not difficult. Two days is enough!
There are a sufficient number of different slopes of a good level, sane prices for accommodation and rental of ski equipment.

On this, perhaps, everything!

A trip to the Low Tatras - Jasna. What did not like.

The snow, for the most part, is artificial - hard and icy in the morning, wet and mushy in the afternoon. On Chopka, the wind blew away all the snow and the downhill slopes are closed, you can ride - but there are a lot of stones. If I didn’t go skiing, I would regret my own. After lunch on Sunday, a dense fog settled, the temperature dropped and it began to snow in the evening. I am sure that from Monday, those who stayed all had much more fun.

A trip by car to the Low Tatras - the ski resort of Jasna for two days, the budget of the trip.

  • Green card: at least two weeks - 670 UAH or 24 Euro
  • Gasoline, diesel, gas - who has what - consider yourself 2,200 km in both directions. At the same time, it is quite realistic to refuel only in Ukraine.
  • Vignette: road toll in Slovakia (I recommend buying in every country. It is not expensive, but the fine for its absence, oh how it bites) - 10 Euro.
  • Accommodation: two nights - 58 Euro
  • Ski equipment rental: two days for one person - 19 Euro
  • Ski pass: two full days for one adult - 62 Euro
  • Food: here you can eat in restaurants (on average, about 15-20 Euros per person) or buy food in supermarkets - it will be cheaper.

Ski resort Jasna - is it worth going?

In general, once again I am convinced that you need to go skiing in the mountains for a period of 2-3 days in the Alps - in Austria, Italy, France, Switzerland. Yes, a little further, but a little more expensive, but not radically, but always and guaranteed 100% pleasure without surprises. As for Jasna, this is a great weekend resort with good views.
